Charleston Plastic Surgeon Now Offers Anatomically Shaped Implants
Dr. Ram Kalus, a plastic surgeon in Charleston, highlights the practical and aesthetic benefits of anatomically-shaped breast implants including Mentor Memory Shape®, Sientra® and Natrelle® 410 implants.
Charleston, SC — Dr. Ram Kalus, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Charleston, has recently announced the addition of anatomically-shaped breast implants to his private practice, Plastic Surgery of the Carolinas. Also referred to as “gummy bear” implants, Mentor Memory Shape®, Sientra® and Natrelle® 410 breast implants were approved by the FDA over the past year and can be used in a variety of breast enhancement procedures including breast augmentation and breast reconstruction.
According to Dr. Kalus’ blog post titled, Benefits of Anatomic Shaped or Form Stable (“Gummy Bear”) Implants, shaped breast implants have several benefits for patients:
- “For breast reconstruction patients, the shaped implants provide a more natural appearance, avoiding the excess upper pole roundness or fullness that can sometimes look artificial.”
- “For the breast augmentation patient who has minimal breast tissue – and/or a poorly defined or non-existent inframammary fold – these form-stable implants may provide a noticeable shape advantage over traditional round implants.”
- “The breast augmentation patient who would traditionally need a breast lift with her augmentation might be able to avoid a mastopexy because these implants are able to provide a more powerful and significant lift.”
In reference to the improved aesthetic results “gummy bear” breast implants can provide his patients, Dr. Kalus says, “These implants are much less discernible in the upper half of the breast and avoid the exaggerated roundness or fullness that traditional round implants may exhibit.” The Charleston plastic surgeon also highlights that the form-stable implants may offer a more natural look, especially for the breast reconstruction patient, or “for the patient who has very little breast tissue and is very flat.”
In the end, Dr. Kalus notes that a certain percentage of his breast augmentation and reconstruction patients may benefit from the advantages of the anatomically-shaped Mentor Memory Shape®, Sientra® or Natrelle® 410 implants, but candidacy will ultimately be determined during a pre-treatment consultation at his practice. Additionally, he stresses that no matter the breast implant selected, patients should always consult a board certified plastic surgeon experienced in aesthetic breast surgery to ensure they receive the highest level of expertise, optimal individualized treatment recommendations, and the most gratifying aesthetic result in their breast enhancement surgery.
