Modern surgery can improve facial balance by changing the size and/or shape of the chin. A small chin can be enhanced through augmentation. Chin augmentation is also an excellent complement to nose surgery. For most patients, chin surgery and rhinoplasty can be performed simultaneously at one of our Charleston surgical centers.
Chin surgery is performed to address insufficient chin protrusion by either inserting a chin implant or actually moving a portion of the chin forward. If an implant will best enhance an appearance, it is inserted through an incision made below the chin or inside the mouth. For some, however, a genioplasty may prove more effective. During this procedure, the tip of the chin is moved forward and held in place with plates and screws.
Both chin surgery options are completely safe procedures. Dr. Ram Kalus will work with your specific needs to decide which option is right. Please contact Plastic Surgery of the Carolinas today for more information about chin surgery.
