ThermiVa™ Vaginal Rejuvenation
ThermiVa® is a vaginal tightening procedure that utilizes ThermiRF® technology, a revolutionary thermal-controlled radiofrequency (RF) system cleared by the FDA. As the natural aging process, weight fluctuation, pregnancy, nursing, and menopause cause changes in the body over time, countless women experience increased laxity in their intimate areas that can impair their sexual health or cause sexual dysfunction. Those seeking to tighten excess labial tissue—or resolve functional issues presented by internal laxity—may have a solution to their concerns with ThermiVa®.
ThermiRF® works by employing radiofrequency heat energy to non-surgically tighten and smooth the skin on various regions of the face and body. At Plastic Surgery of the Carolinas, our plastic surgeons offer ThermiVa® at our med spa to rejuvenate a patient’s vaginal wellness without surgery or downtime.

What is ThermiVa®?
ThermiVa® is the female genital application of non-invasive ThermiRF® technology. This vaginal rejuvenation treatment is designed to tighten external labial tissue by gently delivering RF heat energy to the labia majora and labia minora. ThermiVa® can also emit RF energy into the vaginal canal for non-surgical tightening and improved lubrication. Depending on your concerns, ThermiVa® can focus on the external genitalia, internal vagina, or both. This timely treatment generally takes about 15 minutes and is often completed during a patient’s lunch hour. To achieve the best results, ThermiVa® is generally recommended as a package of three sessions spaced four weeks apart.
Who is a Candidate for ThermiVa®?
Many patients who can benefit from ThermiVa® experience laxity, stretching, and other changes in the internal and external vagina as a result of childbirth, menopause, or aging. The indications for ThermiVa® include mild to moderate labial laxity or redundancy, vaginal laxity, dryness, urinary stress incontinence, and orgasmic dysfunction— all of which can be potentially improved. Candidates for ThermiVa® may include women who experience:
- Sexual dysfunction due to laxity in the vaginal canal or inability to achieve orgasm
- Pain or irritation during sexual intercourse due to mucosal dryness
- Accidental urinary leakage when sneezing, coughing, or laughing
- Visible labial tissue in form-fitting clothing
- Mild to moderate pelvic prolapse
If you are pregnant or have an infection in the area of application, ThermiVa® may not be an appropriate treatment for you.
What Concerns Can ThermiVa® Address?
The temperature-controlled ThermiVa® system can improve a number of cosmetic and functional concerns that may be interfering with a patient’s feminine wellness or sexual well-being. Many women pursue ThermiVa® treatment to address:
- Loose tissue or laxity in the labia, vulva, or vaginal canal
- Internal or external vaginal dryness or irritation
- Mild to moderate stress incontinence
- Some cases of orgasmic dysfunction
With its regulated RF heat energy, ThermiVa® can help women non-surgically address laxity in their intimate areas by catalyzing production of new collagen, tightening and smoothing loose tissue, and improving mucosal dryness.
What is ThermiVa® Treatment Like?
ThermiVa® is an in-office treatment performed conveniently at our Charleston-area practice. There is no need for surgery, incisions, needles, anesthesia, or numbing agents. During your session, a thin handheld wand will be utilized to deliver controlled heat energy into the planned treatment areas. The warmth emitted by the radiofrequency energy will gently heat the tissue at the application site while stimulating collagen production. Patients typically report very minimal discomfort during this process for a virtually painless treatment experience. The entire procedure usually lasts about 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the extent of your concerns. There is generally no downtime required following a ThermiVa® session and individuals can return to work and normal activities right away.
How Long Do ThermiVa® Results Last?
For the best outcome, Dr. Rowin and Dr. Kalus recommend a series of three sessions spaced one month apart. Once the desired results have been achieved, the improvement yielded by ThermiVa® typically lasts for up to 9 to 12 months, with touch-up treatments available to help preserve the outcome.
How Much Does ThermiVa® Cost?
A package of three ThermiVa® treatments—which is usually the number of sessions recommended to achieve the best quality of results—can cost anywhere from $2,000 to $4,000 depending on your needs. However, this estimation doesn’t account for the unique details of your treatment plan, such as:
- The extent of concerns treated
- The amount of treatments included in your ThermiVa® plan
- Your goals for the outcome
These factors will ultimately determine your overall price, and our office can provide you with a personalized quote after your consultation. Since ThermiVa® does not require the usual fees associated with aesthetic surgery, patients often find this treatment a more economical option when compared to surgical vaginal rejuvenation procedures. That said, Dr. Rowin and Dr. Kalus accept financing plans through CareCredit® for qualified patients who would like to pay for ThermiVa® in smaller monthly installments. CareCredit® is a highly reputable healthcare lending company that offers low- to no-interest financing for cosmetic surgery, med spa services, and aesthetic treatments. Please call our office at (843) 806-0096 if you would like to learn more about the cost of ThermiVa® or you wish to speak to a member of our team.
Does ThermiVa® Have Any Side Effects?
Just like any other medical or cosmetic treatment, ThermiVa® comes with a rare chance of complication. The risks of vaginal rejuvenation treatments generally include discomfort, redness, swelling, or pain in the treated area. However, receiving treatment from a board-certified plastic surgeon-led medical spa can greatly minimize the likelihood of serious side effects. In the unlikely event that issues do arise, you can feel confident knowing our plastic surgeons have the experience and training necessary to act quickly to maximize your safety.
Are There Alternatives to ThermiVa®?
ThermiVa® can be a minimally invasive and effective option to improve your vaginal wellness, but Plastic Surgery of the Carolinas also offers other rejuvenation services that can provide immediate results. Dr. Rowin and Dr. Kalus also perform labiaplasty, a surgical procedure that can treat cosmetic concerns as well as functional issues like skin chafing, visible labial tissue, and pain due to friction. This cosmetic surgery is designed to recontour elongated or excess tissue in the labia, which can often lead to symptoms like uncomfortable twisting and tugging or embarrassment during intimate situations. If you’re seeking a longer-lasting outcome than a non-surgical treatment can provide, labiaplasty may be better suited to achieve your goals. However, it should be noted that labiaplasty cannot address certain vaginal health concerns that are capable of being treated with ThermiVa®, such as incontinence and dryness.
