Restoring Feminine Wellness after Childbirth or Menopause

shutterstock_69649351-300x222Many women suffer from vaginal laxity, dryness and urinary stress incontinence following childbirth or as they progress through the stages of menopause. These conditions can range from being slightly annoying to being a major barrier to enjoying a satisfying quality of life, particularly sexually. Until recently, treatment options were limited, but women can now address these problems through a revolutionary vaginal rejuvenation therapy called ThermiVa®, available at Plastic Surgery of the Carolinas.

Too good to be true? This non-surgical, painless treatment can rejuvenate the vaginal canal and external tissue in just three short sessions, scheduled one month apart, with no side effects or downtime, almost sounding too good to be true. Women don’t have to live with dryness, lack of libido or painful intercourse, urinary stress incontinence and the emotional stress associated with one or more of these symptoms. ThermiVa® treatments are providing women with feminine rejuvenation unlike anything they thought would be possible. In fact most patients say they feel like a new woman after treatment, many enjoying better sexual satisfaction than ever before.

How does ThermiVa® vaginal rejuvenation work? ThermiVa® uses radiofrequency energy to stimulate the production of collagen. It also shrinks stretched tissues of the external labia and tightens the vagina, unlike many other devices with similar claims that can only treat the internal vaginal canal. The special device directs heat deep into tissues and lax skin to encourage the natural production of collagen which restores tone to the vagina and also relieves bladder leakage caused by lax muscle tone around the urethra. This treatment also stimulates the internal vaginal lining which creates moisture within the vagina, relieving one of the most common complaints for post-menopausal women: vaginal dryness.

What happens during the treatment? The ThermiVa® device regulates the amount of heat delivered by the thin wand, which is slightly curved and contoured to move easily and painlessly. It is specially designed for use in and around the vagina and is about the width of an index finger, but as thin as a drinking straw. It arrives in a sterile package and is not used on any other patients, so there is no possibility of infection. The treatment is totally painless, so once the patient is positioned comfortably on the special procedure table, similar to the position of a normal gynecological exam, the treatment is provided effortlessly. The wand is first passed over the external labial tissue, with the temperature gradually increased to ensure the patient is not startled by the warmth. The heat generated is never too hot; most patients report that the warmest sensation they feel is similar to a hot stone massage treatment. The wand is then introduced into the vagina where the heat is directed all around the vaginal canal, tightening tissues and stimulating the glands that naturally lubricate the vagina. Total treatment time is about 30 minutes, and once it is completed, patients can go about their usual activities, including intercourse. Most patients will experience the beneficial effects continuing to improve months after their last treatment.

In summary, multiple patients have reported extraordinarily high satisfaction rates with the outcomes from their ThermiVa® treatments, often relaying how thankful their partners are as well.
